Fencing is a dynamic, fast-paced sport practiced around the world by athletes of all ages and skill levels. It blends athleticism, strategy, and precision, developing agility, focus, and quick decision-making while challenging both body and mind. The sport features three disciplines—foil, sabre, and épée—each with its own rules, techniques, and style, offering something for every personality,

Meet Meredith
Meredith has been an active member fencing community, both as a competitor and a coach for the past three decades. She started fencing foil at 11 years old at Tanner City Fencers Club in Peabody, Massachusetts. Over the years Meredith has been coached by world class foil and saber coaches Joe Pechinsky, Jim Carter, Emik Kaidanov, Jane Carter and Molly Sulllivan Sliney. She fenced throughout high school and continued to fence for The Penn State University.
She says, “Coaching and competing bring me immense joy, and I believe my experience as both a coach and competitor helps me to connect with fencers in a unique and impactful way.” She continues, “My philosophy is simple: work hard, listen, and have fun.”
Meet Derek
Derek started fencing under coach Jim Rose when he was 11. He then trained under Alex Ripa of Rhode Island Fencing Club throughout high school. In college, he was a member of the UMass Amherst Fencing Team where he was the foil squad captain from 2005 until 2008. While there, he also ran the novice fencer program designed to bring brand new fencers up to a competitive level in the span of only a couple of months.
