Our Mission
Welcome to Cape Cod Fencers Club, a renowned institution dedicated to fostering a love for the art of fencing. With a rich heritage dating back to 1992, we have been nurturing a deep passion for this elegant and strategic sport. Our club offers expert coaching and a supportive community, enriching the lives of our members.
In addition to teaching the Cape Cod community the sport of fencing, our mission is to support physical fitness, cultivate strategic thinking, and nurture social connections. we strive to instill a profound appreciation for the sport and a strong sense of camaraderie among our members.

Meet Meredith
Meredith has been an active member fencing community, both as a competitor and a coach for the past three decades. She started fencing foil at 11 years old at Tanner City Fencers Club in Peabody, Massachusetts. Over the years Meredith has been coached by world class foil and saber coaches Joe Pechinsky, Jim Carter, Emik Kaidanov, Jane Carter and Molly Sulllivan Sliney. She fenced throughout high school and continued to fence for The Penn State University.
She says, “Coaching and competing bring me immense joy, and I believe my experience as both a coach and competitor helps me to connect with fencers in a unique and impactful way.” She continues, “My philosophy is simple: work hard, listen, and have fun.”
Meet Jim
Jim started fencing at UMass Amherst over 50 years ago and has studied with many great coaches including Master Mike Bunker of the International Academy of Arms. He is certified US Fencing Association coach and has coached at the Tidewater Fencing Club, UMass Dartmouth, Buzzards Bay FC, and the Venice Fencing Club as a guest coach. A former Division Chairman of the New England division the of the USFA. Jim's goals in coaching is to see his fencers grow both in both body and mind and most important ENJOY THEMSELVES.
Meet Derek
Derek started fencing under coach Jim Rose when he was 11. He then trained under Alex Ripa of Rhode Island Fencing Club throughout high school. In college, he was a member of the UMass Amherst Fencing Team where he was the foil squad captain from 2005 until 2008. While there, he also ran the novice fencer program designed to bring brand new fencers up to a competitive level in the span of only a couple of months.

Descriptions:

Classes: Open to fencers of all levels. Each session focuses on developing crisp footwork, precise bladework, and tactical awareness through situational bouting drills that translate directly to competition.

Open Fencing: is available to fencers of all skill levels. Whether you're breaking in new techniques or refining the fundamentals, come enjoy competitive bouts in a welcoming and energetic atmosphere.

Youth Classes: (Ages 8–16) welcome young athletes of all experience levels for a program built around growth — on and off the strip. Each class develops physical strength, sharp footwork, and confident bladework, while instilling the focus and self-belief that carries young athletes beyond the gym.

Frequently asked questions
What is fencing?
Fencing is an Olympic sport where athletes compete using swords while wearing protective equipment. It is a fast-paced and strategic, developing both physical fitness and mental focus.
Do I need prior experience?
No prior experience is required. Beginners are always welcome, and our coaches provide structured instruction for new fencers.
What if I fenced before but haven't fenced in years?
That's great! You are welcome to join classes to refresh your skills or even try a new weapon. You may also participate in open fencing sessions.
What ages can participate?
Ages 6 and up are welcome and encouraged. Fencing is a great activity for all ages and ability levels.
Is fencing safe?
Yes. Fencing is one of the safest combat sports. All participants wear protective gear, and classes are supervised by trained coaches following strict safety guidelines.
Do I need to purchase my own equipment?
No. Equipment is provided by the club. As fencers advance, purchasing personal equipment may be recommended for comfort and personal preference.
What should I wear to class?
Please wear comfortable athletic clothing, long pants, and athletic shoes. Avoid shorts, Crocs, boots, sandals, or open-toed footwear.
Is fencing good for fitness?
Yes. Fencing improves coordination, balance, strength, cardiovascular fitness, and mental focus.
Are competitions required?
No. Competition is optional. Members may fence recreationally or choose to participate in local and national tournaments.
Do you offer a trial membership?
Yes. Cape Cod Fencers Clubs offers a one-month trial membership for $125.
Do I have to be a member of the United States Fencing Association (USFA)?
After completing the one-month trial membership, Cape Cod Fencers Club encourages members to join the USFA. Please ask the coaches for more information about membership options.
